Future of Indian Democracy

Indian Democracy has been vigorously involved in the process of meeting several challenges and problems. Over the years, it has been successful in working as a liberal democratic system of governance. It can take legitimate pride in proclaiming itself as the world's largest working and functioning democracy which has ensured political stability and security for India. However, it is still trying to meet socio-economic inequalities and several other challenges. For this purpose, it is essential that the government, all non-government organisations and all socio, economic and cultural organisations of all the people of India, should work in a coordinated and united way to meet all problems and challenges. The future of Indian democracy is secure but there is every need to make it brighter and fully successful.

1. Stable and Strong Government : The government must take stronger steps for fighting the evils of terrorism, bureaucratic delays, political corruption, administrative inefficiency and non-achievement of plan targets and goals. It must ensure a healthy environment for the rapid growth of industry, trade, business, trade, technology and economy as a whole. It must encourage and extensively use the Private-Public Partnership model of development in all sectors of life. It must act as a fully transparent and accountable government. The organisation of a majority backed BJP-led NDA government of PM Narendra Modi has given a new strength and political stability to Indian Economy and Polity.

2. Effective Role of Civil Society : All non-governmental organisations, groups, associations and unions of the people i.e. the whole civil society, must organise and successfully run mass campaigns against socio-economic limitations and problems which continue to afflict Indian society, polity and economy. Mass campaigns for the protection of Human Rights and Environment as well as strong social movements against evils of violence, female foeticide, terrorism and drug addiction must be organised and continuously run by NGOs.

3. Fully Democratic Behaviour of Political Parties : The responsibility for organising and running democratic institutions rests fully with the political parties. These must come forward to abandon their narrow, bigoted, power-hungry and caste-ridden approach towards national needs and interests. These must act to eliminate evils like political corruption, political violence, political defections and criminalisation of politics. Without waiting for the passing of the women reservation bill, all political parties must voluntarily give at least 33% of all electoral seats to women candidates. They must adopt the democratic culture in their internal working. Political parties must become and behave as effective political instruments for organising and working democratic political institutions and processes.

4. Full Faith of the People in Democracy : Democracy always works as people’s democracy. Therefore, it is essential that all the people and their organisations should come forward to participate fully in the working and functioning of democracy. For this goal, it is essential that they must pool their resources and efforts for meeting all the challenges and problems which are being faced by their Democracy.

The Future of Indian Democracy is secure and bright because the people have positively adopted it. They have an unshakeable faith in Liberalism and Democracy; but for making the future of Indian Democracy brighter and more productive, the government and the people must act as a united, integrated, motivated and disciplined team. Political success of Indian Democracy must be supplemented by its success in social and economic dimensions and the benefits of technological advancement and economic development must reach every section of Indian Society. The current political stability and national drive for all round development must be used for securing a high level of sustainable development. Since the people of India have realised this need and are committed to secure it, the future of Indian Democracy appears to be very bright. India is really a Liberal Democratic India. It is destined to remain so. It is destined to become a fully developed and powerful democratic country - a superpower in the next two decades of the 21st century.
